14 Valentine's Day Ideas!

Romantic, exciting (and pretty unique!) treats that won't break the bank.
Valentine's Day is the perfect opportunity to get romantic, but what if you've had one too many candlelight dinners, and want to try something more original this year? To help you out, we've got some awesome tips from relationship experts so you can plan your perfect treats for your valentine!

1. Create memory books

Get a blank book and fill it with ticket stubs, cartoons from the newspaper -- anything that you know will make your partner smile, says relationship expert Lissa Coffey. Write down happy memories and examples of what you love about your partner and leave them on the bookshelf so it can serve as a romantic reminder in the future.

2. Make a mix tape

"Make a mix CD of songs from when you were dating or when you got married," suggests Coffey.

3. Plan candy surprises

Give your sweetheart a sweet surprise by leaving candy kisses or Valentine heart conversation candies in places he won't expect, says Coffey. Be creative and leave him wondering where the next candy might be!

4. Go-kart

You know about guys and their love for motor and speed. Now show him you know how to handle mean machines, too. Have plenty of fun challenging him to a race around the track.

5. Make a romantic screensaver

Does your partner switch on the computer first thing in the morning? If the answer is yes, it's a perfect opportunity to put up a sweet screensaver. "Make a personal 'I love you' screensaver or wallpaper and have it on the computer when they turn it on in the morning," says Coffey.

6. Get a temporary tattoo

Ink your partner's name on your body with a henna tattoo. Don't worry -- it's not permanent!

7. Keep it simple

Sometimes, it's the little things that mean the most. Getting the car washed and filled up may seem mundane and unromantic but to him, it can come across as a lovely, thoughtful gesture, Coffey advises.

8. Set up romantic alerts

Keep him guessing throughout the day by scheduling his phone to go off at random times with sweet messages or tantalizing glimpses of the evening ahead, suggests Coffey. "Anticipation is all part of the fun!"

9. Go for subtle luxury

Put rose petals in the bath or have a couples massage, Coffey recommends. These are easy ways to inject some low-key romance into the day. Want to go the extra mile? Stick some glow-in-the-dark stars on the ceiling to further set the mood.

10. Get dancing!

Have a laugh with a dancing date, says Coffey. Get your hands on an instructional dance DVD and have fun learning the moves, or stick on some of your favourite tunes from days gone by. For a real disco feel, set up some twinkle lights or a mini mirror ball and get your groove on!

11. Find an unusual venue

When you want to do something other than the usual romantic dinner, think about doing something a bit less obvious, says UK dating expert Peter Spalton aka the "Dating Doctor". Not sure about where to go? "Find a secluded and unusual place for a picnic or just strawberries and champagne for two," he suggests. "It could be somewhere like a hot air balloon, the gondola in a Ferris wheel or a rowing boat on a lake or the river."

12. Plan an unusual date time

"Rather than choosing an unusual place you could pick an odd time," says Spalton. "Maybe a midnight picnic on the beach or a romantic breakfast with champagne, orange juice and smoked salmon."

13. Try something new

Get out of your comfort zone when you're planning a date. "Do something together that you've never done before -- a "first" that you wouldn't normally do," urges Spalton. "How about a Burlesque show, a poetry recital, a test drive in a Ferrari or walk at sunrise?"

14. Be anonymous

"Book a large double room in small boutique hotel and get there independently so you can meet in the bar just like a first date," Spalton recommends. Acting like strangers can rekindle the spark in your relationship, especially if you've been together a while or have kids.
